KCC Youth Catechesis

High School

Meets Sunday evenings, September through April or May. Format: announcements, group activity, small group and full group discussions, guest speakers, audio-visuals, prayer, planning, and some surprises.

  • 6:30 - 7:00pm Open Youth Center
  • 7:00 - 8:30pm Meeting
  • 8:30 - 9:00pm Open Youth Center

Meeting topics are often initiated by KCC members or Adult Youth Ministers, according to relevant themes in students' lives.

Confirmation

(For 7th and 8th grade students and high school students, as needed.)

Confirmation preparation is part of the total faith-formation process of Youth Group. It is built into the 7th and 8th grade program to emphasize the community dimension of the sacrament. Preparation includes service, a retreat, the diocesan confirmation rally, and faith-sharing with a sponsor or mentor. Confirmation is celebrated in a large venue, in which all parishes in the South Bend half of the diocese congregate.

Primary resources include Confirming Disciples from the Center for Ministry Development and Catholic Quick View by Saint Mary's Press.

Middle School

Meets Wednesday evenings, September through April (grades 6 & 7) and May (grade 8). Format: announcements, group activity, prayer, grade group sessions, refreshments.

Resource materials to be used in the middle school program are from the Discovering Program published by Saint Mary's Press of Winona, Minnesota. We will each use three to four of the six-session courses. These are the titles:
