KCC Adult Youth Minister Notes

May 4, 2008 - 8th Grade

Dear parents,

Today we examined the reason why the youth wanted to be confirmed. Fr. Neil visited the group and spoke of his priorities for them.

Session Plan

We began by looking back at the retreat and evaluating the experience, now with a week's perspective. Then we broke up into three groups and worked on the reasons why we want to be confirmed. There can be many reasons, but we attempted to bring them to the understanding that confirmation is a commitment - a commitment to be faithful to Jesus Christ and his teaching, to be active in the work of the Church, and to continue to grow in their relationship with God. The confirmation celebration is not graduation, but a promise to do their best to live by that commitment.

At Home

Continue the discussion with your youth as to why he or she wants to be confirmed. Encourage contact with the sponsor so that the youth/sponsor relationship continues to grow.

Points to Remember

Confirmation calls us to be faithful to the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Church.

Confirmation calls us to be active in the work of the Church - worship, service, social justice.

Confirmation calls us to grow in our relationship with God, through prayer, continued study and reflection, and through evangelization and reaching out to others.

Sincerely,
Steve, Mary, Renae, and Bill

NB - This is the last Sunday for Renae and Mary to be with us. They have been extraordinarily faithful to the youth and to the program. They have been a blessing to Steve and Bill with the gifts and energy they have brought. We thank them and wish them the best as they continue their life at Notre Dame.
