KCC Adult Youth Minister Notes
April 13, 2008 - 8th Grade
Dear parents,
We continued our study of Christian morality by looking at chapter 25 in their books: "Honoring Family."
Session Plan
Today our theme was respect. We began by talking about the commandment of honoring one's father and mother. The students were asked to act out their view of a dysfunctional family. We then discussed what a functional family looks like, specifically with regards to the commandment and respect. Then we moved on to the idea of respect for the law and government. After reading some examples, we discussed just laws that should be followed versus unjust laws that can be disobeyed.
At Home
Look together at the sidebar on page 247 of the book: "John Paul II on Family." He referred to the family as the domestic church. Discuss together how your family is a domestic church. Encourage your youth to pray the prayer on page 252. Parents need lots of prayers.
Points to Remember
Fourth Commandment: Honor your father and mother.
Respect is the foundation of all human relationships
Honor and respect should be given to all legitimate authority - teachers, counselors, coaches, priests, police, and other leaders. Respect needs to be earned by right behavior, but should still be given.
Sincerely,
Steve, Mary, Renae, and Bill
